KIRAC Collective - Participating Artists - Simchowitz Gallery

Stefan Ruitenbeek and Kate Sinha, artistic directors of the KIRAC Collective, utilized their residency at Pasadena to focus on their film, “Love.” Funded by the Dutch Mondriaan Fund and their private Donors, this project showcases their distinctive blend of writing and filmmaking. It chronicles Kate’s journey as a writer and mother, navigating the challenges of balancing family life with her creative pursuits during her partner’s legal disputes with author Michel Houellebecq. Employing a non-linear narrative, the film thoughtfully explores the integration of radical artistic ideals with the everyday realities of family life, reflecting the unique artistic ethos of the KIRAC Collective.

Kate played a significant role in editing the 2017 film “KIRAC 8: The Art of Stefan Simchowitch.” Although the film was shot in Los Angeles without her by her partner, Stefan Ruitenbeek. Kate’s attraction to the integrated artistic and family life exemplified by Stefan and his wife Rosie’s ‘Kibbutz-style’ setting resonated with her own values. During her visits, she engaged with various notable LA residents, including venture capitalist Peter Thiel. These interactions, which involved rich dialogues on art, values, and the future, served as mutual exchanges of ideas that enriched the “Love” project and the broader artistic discourse of KIRAC.
